Tyre troubles hindered Lockwood Racing’s progress at Yas Marina yesterday, with Fabian Coulthard having no soft tyres in the bank to practice with.
The oversight meant his qualifying set-up was untested going into the 20-minute session, in which each driver had to set three fast times to secure starting positions for the weekend’s three races.
Coulthard secured starting positions 12th and 14th for this afternoon’s first two races, which start at 5pm Eastern Australian Time (broadcast on Seven Mate) and will start tomorrow’s final 12-lap sprint race from 11th.

“The car’s been a bit of a handful really. I think it’s not just our car; a few people are battling the same things.
“We missed a trick not bringing any soft tyres with us like a few of the other teams. Good preparation for qualifying is knowing what you’ve got on the soft tyre, so we missed that boat.
“Qualifying was OK considering but the car’s just not good enough to run at the front at the minute so we’ve got a bit of work to do to make it better.”
