Dick Johnson Racing has revealed Xbox as the sponsor of the wildcard entry Marcos Ambrose will drive at the Sydney NRMA 500 ahead of his full-time series return in 2015.
The #66 Xbox Racing Ford Falcon FG livery was unveiled to the media at Lakeside Park before Ambrose took to the track for his first taste of the new generation V8 Supercar in a highly publicised ride day at the Queensland race track.
Pirtek, Ambrose’s sponsor throughout his initial V8 Supercars career in 2001-2005, has also added its support appearing on the car, alongside regular DJR sponsors Shell, Crimsafe and PPG.
“The whole package has come together perfectly,” said Ambrose, who only arrived back in Australia 48 hours earlier following his final NASCAR race.
“I have been eager to get back in the V8 Supercar and I’m a gamer myself, so to head to Sydney with Xbox as our major partner is a fantastic outcome.
“Today is the first time the Xbox / DJR team have been together, so no doubt we will work really hard over the next week and arrive in Sydney ready to go.”
Xbox last took to the track as sponsors to the 2013 Triple Eight Bathurst 1000 wildcard to promote its video racing game Forza Motorsport 5. Driven by Mattias Ekstrom and Andy Priaulx, the Xbox One Racing Holden finished tenth.
“Once we knew that Marcos could get back here to race and V8 Supercars confirmed the entry it was full steam ahead,” said team principal Dick Johnson.
“We will run three cars at Homebush so we were focussed heavily on securing a great partner to launch Ambrose’s return to the series. To have such a high profile brand as Xbox on the car in Sydney is the icing on the cake.”
