Red Bull Racing Australia will pay tribute to the Royal Australian Air Force at this weekend’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 with a special one-off camouflage livery on its two Holden entries.

The livery represents a partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force and symbolises the skills, spirit and commitment of the the championship-winning motorsport and aeronautical teams.

As well sporting the new look Bathurst livery on its Holdens, drivers Jamie Whincup/Paul Dumbrell and Craig Lowndes/Steven Richards will also wear camouflage driver overalls during the race weekend.

“The great thing about this partnership is showcasing the team behind our teams,” Lowndes told V8Supercars.com.au.

“What you see at a race track is probably a quarter of the whole team and it’s the same for the Royal Australian Air Force.

“We both have a similar mentality and understanding of how we operate in terms of pre-checks before an aircraft can take off, same as before we can put our race car on the track.”

To launch the new look, the team flew its V8 Supercars aboard a C-130J Hercules transport plane over the top Mount Panorama and landed into Bathurst airport on Tuesday.

“It’s clearly our biggest race of the year, and what better way to celebrate it than with another awesome team – that’s the Air Force,” Whincup said.

“Those guys, we share so many similarities (with) and it’s awesome to team up with them and just showcase what the Air Force is all about and raise awareness for those guys.

“Hopefully the whole crew of the Air Force are right behind us this weekend.”

It is the second time Triple Eight Race Engineering has carried a camouflage livery, having previously represented defence force charity GECKO at Townsville in 2011, and Whincup is hoping for a repeat of the one-two finish in the second race that year.

“We ran it at Townsville … we had a win then representing the Army, now we’re celebrating the Air Force … so really exciting,” said Whincup.
