V8 Supercar teams will be given an extra set of Dunlop hard tyres for use during Friday practice at the Winton SuperSprint.

The V8 Supercars Commission has allocated teams the additional set after some frustrations were voiced about the lack of rubber and format over the SuperSprint weekends.

This season’s allocation of tyres was drastically cut from 380 to 292 in an effort to save costs for teams, but the reduction has seen teams having to use pre-marked rubber from previous race meetings during practice and unable to find an optimal set up on spent tyres ahead of qualifying or the races.

The original allocation for Winton was 12 new hard tyres and four soft. The extra tyres will enable teams to maximise Friday practice and produce a more meaningful ‘form guide’ at the end of the first day of the event.

The additional allocation of tyres will be considered for the remainder of the season with more details expected soon.

Changes to the current Saturday SuperSprint race format, which comprises two 60km sprints, are also expected to be discussed by the Commission.
