Ash Walsh will partner Tim Slade at Freightliner Racing for this year’s Pirtek Enduro Cup, joining Andrew Jones and Macauley Jones on Brad Jones Racing’s 2016 co-driver roster.

Walsh showed promising signs in his V8 Supercars debut season and picked up the 2015 Mike Kable Young Gun award, but after what was ultimately a troubled year, the 28-year-old rookie lost his seat with Erebus Motorsport.

Walsh is currently racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and is seventh in the standings after two rounds.

“Brad and I spoke a while ago about the possibility of a drive and I certainly didn’t want to muck around looking for deals when he presented this fantastic opportunity to me,” said Walsh.

“The combination of Brad, Tim and the Freightliner Racing team is awesome; I was happy to lock it down as soon as I could.

“It’s meant I can focus on my Carrera Cup season and keep my eye in for when I get to jump aboard the Freightliner Racing Commodore.

“I’ve raced against Tim in Go Karts and Formula Ford, so I’ve known him for a very long time and it’s great to be able to jump in and co-drive with someone I know.

“The fact we are a similar build and fast on track are just a couple of the many reasons that this will be a good fit. I’m really excited to get back into a V8 Supercar.”

Slade believes both Walsh’s recent experience in V8 Supercars and his strong showing in this year’s Carrera Cup will stand the pair in good stead.

“I’m really happy to be partnering up with Ash for the endurance races this year,” said Slade.

“I’ve known him for a while now, back from our go karting days.

“I’ve always considered Ash as being a pretty fast guy and to get anyone fresh out of the V8 Supercar Championship as a co-driver the year after is quite good.

“He is competitive in the Carrera Cup field and it has been nice to see him race a few times this year already.”

Joining the team in the other two Brad Jones Racing Holdens are Andrew Jones who pairs with Jason Bright in the Team BOC Commodore for the sixth consecutive year, and Macauley Jones who will partner Tim Blanchard in the Cooldrive-backed Holden, after contesting the PIRTEK Enduro Cup for the first time last year.
